Joining Year 7 in September 2026

Choosing a secondary school is a major decision and we aim to make the transition from primary to secondary school as smooth as possible.

To help you in this choice we would like to invite you to the following events:

Open Evening. Thursday 25th September. This will be an opportunity for you to hear more about the school and to visit classrooms and talk with teachers and students. The evening will run from 5pm to 8pm. There will be presentations in the main hall at 5:00pm and 6:30pm and you may visit subject areas before or after these presentations as you wish.

Open Morning. Friday 26th September. You are welcome to visit the school on a normal working day. Please ask permission from your primary school first. Tours will be at 9:00am, 10 am and 11 am. You do not need to book.

As there is building work on site (the new classrooms will be ready for teaching in September 2026!)  parking is limited and we ask you to walk to school wherever possible.

If you are unable to attend the Open Evening or Open Morning or would like to visit the school at another time, please contact Mr Bonsell, who has responsibility for the transition from Year 6 to Year 7, by email:

We look forward to welcoming you to Wood Green School.

To apply to Wood Green School, you will do this through the Oxfordshire County Council website.

The deadline for applications is 31st October 2025

If you do wish to join Wood Green School and you do not live or go to school in our catchment, it is still worth applying as this will not affect the chances of your getting into your second-choice school.

We look forward to welcoming you to Wood Green School.

WHAT HAPPENS AFTER I AM GIVEN A PLACE?

You usually find out which school you have been allocated on 2nd March. We are also given the list of our new students by OCC then too. This starts a very busy time for our Transition staff. We contact families and primary schools to start the transition process, including giving you all the information you need and finding out more about our new students as individuals. In the weeks between March and July, we visit all schools, meet all our new students, arrange tutor groups with the Head of Year and organise our Transition Days when year 6s spend their first days at Wood Green School. We are proud of how smoothly this runs at Wood Green and students and parents regularly say each year how supported they felt in the transition to secondary school. Whatever happens in the year ahead, we will do everything to make our new cohort feel equally welcomed.
