The programme compliments the learning for life and well-being curriculum, by encouraging young people to take charge of their own health today by developing habits that will help them maintain good health.

“It was great to see the students hearing new voices from our wider community. They enthusiastically engaged with them on importance of sleep and most left with their free sleep masks on their head!”
Julia Cobb – Head of Learning for Life

Future Well Kids teaches kids about noncommunicable diseases (NCD), and how they can stay healthy and reduce their risk of developing chronic diseases later in life.  The programme encourages students to put their lessons to use by making simple changes in their own lives – such as creating their own nutritious meal plans, setting physical fitness goals, and differentiating between sound nutrition advice and online health fads.

The visit this term saw all students in year 7 learn about how sleep affects almost every cell and function of our bodies. After reflecting on their sleep habits, students learnt about age-level sleep requirements and the importance of sleep in maintaining health.

As part of the visit Abbotts Diabetes Care also donated a microscope with separate screen that will be a useful resource for students in science.
