Wood Green School was delighted to welcome students, staff, families and community members to the official opening of The Green House, our exciting new Science and Art building.
The eight-classroom facility has taken 15 months to build and provides a modern, inspiring environment for learning. The name, suggested by parent Phil Andrews, reflects both the building's sustainable features and Wood Green School's commitment to helping young people grow and thrive.
Headteacher Rob Shadbolt said:
"The building is green, it has strong green credentials with solar panels, air source heating and even swift and bat boxes built into the walls. A Green House is a great image for a school, nurturing and growing new life, and then of course we are Wood Green!"
A special ribbon-cutting ceremony brought together representatives from across the school community, including students, staff, governors, trustees, volunteers, local councillors, parents and construction partners. The evening was also enhanced by music from the Wood Green School Swing Band.
The final ribbon was cut by Charlie Maynard MP, who officially declared The Green House open.
Rob Shadbolt said:
"We are incredibly grateful to Charlie Maynard MP for giving his time to formally open The Green House. Charlie reminded students how this new building is for them, and he is absolutely right."
Students have already begun using the new classrooms and are enjoying the new facilities. Head Student Amy Block said:
"It is really inspiring having lessons in The Green House. It is a great environment for learning. I am so pleased that I shall have my last year at school learning Science in the new building and other students will have many more years to enjoy it."
The opening of The Green House marks an important milestone for Wood Green School and will provide outstanding learning opportunities for generations of students to come.
