Joining Year 7 in September 2024

Choosing a secondary school is a major decision and we aim to make the transition from primary to secondary school as smooth as possible.

We are very pleased to invite you to Wood Green School Open Evening for prospective parents and students on Thursday 28th September 2023. The evening is designed so that you will learn as much about Wood Green as possible. You will be able to tour the school to see staff and students working together, and perhaps join in yourselves.

Our Open Evening is from 5.00pm to 8.00pm. We recommend arriving by 6.00pm at the latest to see as much of the school as possible. There will be three chances to hear a presentation from Mr Shadbolt (Headteacher) Mr Roberts (Head of Transition), and students about Wood Green School, its ethos, and opportunities. These will be at 5.00pm, 6.00pm and 7.00pm in the Main Hall. The audience for each presentation is limited to 250 for fire safety reasons. Please book your places to attend the presentation by clicking here. Places are allocated on a first come first served basis. You will be emailed confirmation that you have booked places. You do not need to book to attend Open Evening, only the talks in the hall.

If you have any questions regarding the transition process, Mr Roberts will be available to answer them in the Main Hall after each presentation. There will also be a member of the Leadership Team available in the Restaurant all evening.

When you arrive, please come to reception at the main entrance where you will be greeted and given a programme for the evening. Parking is available on site.

In addition to the Open Evening, we will be holding an Open Morning on Friday 29th September 2023 when you will be able to see the school on a normal working day. There will be three accompanied tours of the school beginning at 9.00am, 10.00am and 11.00 am respectively, and once again, staff will meet you at the main entrance. You do not need to let us know in advance if you are attending.

If you are unable to attend the Open Evening or Morning or would like to visit the school at another time, please contact Mr Roberts, who has responsibility for the transition from year 6 to 7, by either email, s.roberts@wgswitney.org.uk, or phone as above.

We look forward to welcoming you to Wood Green School.

Click here to book for the Open Evening talks in the hall at 5pm, 6pm or 7pm

If you do wish to join Wood Green School and you do not live or go to school in our catchment, it is still worth applying as this will not affect the chances of your getting into your second-choice school.

We look forward to welcoming you to Wood Green School.

WHAT HAPPENS AFTER I AM GIVEN A PLACE?

You usually find out which school you have been allocated on 1st March. We are also given the list of our new students by OCC then too. This starts a very busy time for our Transition Lead, Mr Roberts. He contacts families and primary schools to start the transition process, including giving you all the information you need and finding out more about our new students as individuals. In the weeks between March and July, Mr Roberts visits all schools, meets all our new students, arranges tutor groups with the Head of Year and organises our Transition Days when year 6s spend their first days at Wood Green School. We are proud of how smoothly this runs at Wood Green and students and parents regularly say each year how supported they felt in the transition to secondary school. Whatever happens in the year ahead, we will do everything to make our new cohort feel equally welcomed.
